A Brief Encounter (1945) shows how one (or two) apparently quiet and undisturbed life can become violently, though for appearances sake mildly, upset. It also shows life in the mid 1940s, that was almost seventy years ago... funny to see how much has changed and how much has not. Seventy years ago, people were not different from people today: contexts may differ, technology certainly does; feelings and dilemmas remain pretty much the same. All of this to the sound of Rachmaninoff's brilliant piano concerto n. 2, which transmits anxiety and fear, as easily as hope and joy. Sublime!
