Casual Saturday working at the office. Late afternoon I went to the library to take out some books. At the checkout desk I handed my university ID and the books to the lady. She swiped the card on the computer and the book bar codes on the reader while talking to someone else. As she was about to choose the rubber stamp with the due date (one month for students, one year for faculty) she looked at the computer screen and then at me with a surprised face:
Her: hmmm you're faculty?!
Me smiling: yes.
Her: but you look so young!
Me, continuing to smile: thank you [and after a few seconds]... I don't really teach like this [alluding to my casual clothes].
She smiled.
