Caprichos #383

Nothing much new is left to say about the staging of Il Trovatore at the Met earlier today after 2011's live transmission: same McVicar production, same multiple and beautiful arias, excellent performances by all actors (though Netrebko replaced Radvanovsky as Leonora; and Lee replaced Álvarez as Manrico).

Worthy difference was the electric reaction of the entire theatre as Hvorostovsky took the stage for the first time (the orchestra had to stop when the audience erupted in spontaneous applause), every time he finished an aria, and, of course, at the curtain call. He was showered with roses thrown on stage by the orchestra. The same occurred at Il Trovatore's premiere the Friday before the last. Very well deserved!

Tenho cá uns amigos de visita a NY e ontem foram à Metropolitan Opera ver isso. Voltaram a casa extasiados! :)
