Numa sala perto de mim #198

Jiro dreams of sushi (2012). 85-year-old Jiro has been making sushi for the past 75 years. In a tiny little restaurant* in Tokyo's subway, Jiro created a legacy hard to surpass... only possible in the context of Japanese traditional culture and tenacity in search for perfection.

The movie starts with old Jiro saying:

Once you decide on your occupation you must immerse yourself in your work. You have to fall in love with your work. Never complain about your job. You must dedicate your life to mastering your skill. That's the secret of success... and is the key to be regarded honorably.

A lesson to all on dedication, passion, and achievement.

*Jiro only serves sushi. No appetizers. No dessert. Each meal of about 20 pieces of sushi (each prepared meticulously in front of the customer and eaten immediately after) goes for ¥30,000 a person, that's €300 or $383 at today's exchange rate. Reservations are taken a month in advance.
