Master Class is a Terrence McNally theatre play based on Maria Callas' classes at the Julliard school in 1971-1972. During one hour and a half Callas gets dismayed, appalled and at times impressed by students' performances giving them advice on how to act, sing, speak, and behave on stage while criticizing and admonishing their demeanor. Her recollection of memories from her difficult upbringing, her personal affairs, as well as the highlights of her career, give a glimpse of the building of the difficult personality Callas is known to have had. All of this is accompanied by excerpts of old records of Callas singing Bellini's La Sonnambula, Puccinni's Tosca and Verdi's Macbeth. Highly recommendable!
