Captain Phillips (2013) is based on the true story of the hijacking and subsequent rescue, in April 2009, of the cargo carrier MV Maersk Alabama the first american flag ship seized by pirates since the nineteenth century. Large civil carriers are defenseless in the middle of nowhere when faced with small skiffs of armed somali pirates with very little to lose. Ransom payments, military operations of rescue, or regular patrols in the high seas, are costly to implement or enforce and bring less than optimal outcomes.
A true action movie that keeps the heart beating fast throughout.
