Foi neste dia # 64 (1998)

Uma lição de humildade... foi no dia 16 de Março de 1998 que João Paulo II pediu desculpa pelo facto de alguns católicos se terem mantido silenciosos durante o Holocausto. Dois anos mais tarde, a 26 de Março de 2000, deslocou-se a Jerusalém onde colocou uma carta no muro das lamentações. Dizia o seguinte:

God of our fathers,

You chose Abraham and his descendants
to bring your Name to the Nations:
we are deeply saddened
by the behaviour of those
who in the course of history
have caused these children of yours to suffer,
and asking your forgiveness
we wish to commit ourselves
to genuine brotherhood
with the people of the Covenant.
