Grave of the Fireflies (1988) tells the story of two children accidentally separated from their parents in the summer of 1945, during the last months of World War II in Japan. Beautifully done, but very (VERY) sad.
The notion of human perishability (including your own) should not be learned at such an early age... Why do fireflies die so soon?
