Numa sala perto de mim #305
Gett: the trial of Viviane Amsalem (2014) tells the story of an israeli woman in want of a divorce that she can't get unless the husband agrees. The incredibly frustrating and depressing process makes you think about the place of women in marriage and society, the degrading role of religious courts in the denial of basic rights, and the unequal bearings of the law upon different citizens. How tough it is to be a woman in so many corners of the world, unfortunately. Two hours with rare comic moments, but mostly disbelief and insanity.

Ophelia, James William Waterhouse, 1894
Ophelia
The Band, here Diana Krall
Boards on the window, mail by the door
What would anybody leave so quickly for?
Ophelia - Where have you gone?
The old neighborhood just ain't the same
Nobody knows just what became of
Ophelia - tell me, what went wrong?
Was it somethin' that somebody said?
Mama, I know we broke the rules
Was somebody up against the law?
Honey, you know I'd die for you
Ashes of laughter, the coast is clear
Why do the best things always disappear
Like Ophelia - please darken my door
Was it somethin' that somebody said?
Honey, you know we broke the rules
Was somebody up against the law?
Honey, you know I'd die for you
They got your number, scared and runnin'
But I'm still waitin' for the second comin'
Of Ophelia - come back home

Primavera #51
How many more white flowers can there be?
/ Que mais flores brancas estarão para vir?
Until when will this baby-green color surround us? /
Até quando veremos esta cor verde-bébé em volta?

Coisas que não mudam #298
The very southern tradition of double names. My bank manager is Laura-Marie (yes, hyphenated), Lisa Marie was perhaps the most famous southern child who even had a plane named after her, there are country songs about Bonnie Lee and Jenny Lee (from sunny Tennessee...), and who doesn't remember Mary Lou?!
_____________
Ricky Nelson
Hello Mary Lou, goodbye heart
Sweet Mary Lou, I'm so in love with you
I knew Mary Lou, we'd never part
So hello Mary Lou, goodbye heart
I said, hello Mary Lou, goodbye heart
Sweet Mary Lou, I'm so in love with you
I knew Mary Lou, we'd never part
So hello Mary Lou, goodbye heart
I saw your lips I heard your voice
Believe me I just had no choice
Wild horses couldn't make me stay away
I thought about a moonlit night
My arms about good an' tight
That's all I had to see for me to say
Hey, hey, hello Mary Lou, goodbye heart
Sweet Mary Lou, I'm so in love with you
So hello Mary Lou, goodbye heart
Hello Mary Lou, goodbye heart
Sweet Mary Lou, I'm so in love with you
I knew Mary Lou, we'd never part
So hello Mary Lou, goodbye heart
You passed me by one sunny day
Flashed those big brown eyes my way
And oo I wanted you forever more
Now I'm not one that gets around
Swear my feet stuck to the ground
And though I never did meet you before
Flashed those big brown eyes my way
And oo I wanted you forever more
Now I'm not one that gets around
Swear my feet stuck to the ground
And though I never did meet you before
I said, hello Mary Lou, goodbye heart
Sweet Mary Lou, I'm so in love with you
I knew Mary Lou, we'd never part
So hello Mary Lou, goodbye heart
I saw your lips I heard your voice
Believe me I just had no choice
Wild horses couldn't make me stay away
I thought about a moonlit night
My arms about good an' tight
That's all I had to see for me to say
Hey, hey, hello Mary Lou, goodbye heart
Sweet Mary Lou, I'm so in love with you
I knew Mary Lou, we'd never part
So hello Mary Lou, goodbye heart
So hello Mary Lou, goodbye heart
So hello Mary Lou, goodbye heart
Yes hello Mary Lou, goodbye heart

Primavera #47
O vento, a chuva e a nova folhagem acabaram com as profusas flores que fotografei 48 horas antes. Vão estas e vêm outras... vai ser assim nas próximas semanas :-)
The wind, the rain and the new leaves destroyed the profuse flowers I photographed 48 hours earlier. These go, but others come around... it will be like this in the coming weeks :-)
