The Party (2017). Seven friends get together to happily celebrate one of their own's life achievements, but one revelation after another turns feelings badly sour and there is little reason for smiles any more. The audience is taken through every single emotion on the spectrum from joy to sadness, compassion, disappointment, denial, anger, despair, remorse, fear, revenge, and even rage all in black and white... no need for color with such abundance of feelings. The carefully thought sequence of announcements by various party members triggers the train of emotions densely packed in just 71 minutes... quite the feat!
A note to the rather varied soundtrack, initially by choice of the most somber character of the group, whose revelation initiates the turmoil, later through the haphazard selections of a less than sober party member, who unsuccessfully attempts to ameliorate things. It is not very common to hear Ibrahim Ferrer, Henry Purcell, and Carlos Paredes all within an hour!
