The Silence of the Lambs (1991) has not aged.
I went to see it again expecting a period piece. When I saw Casablanca, I realized that actors don't speak like that anymore, the music score is not as dramatic anymore, films are not shot like that anymore... that movie still is a beautiful combination of the 1940s but all in it is somewhat slightly forced and very theatrical. Ever since Casablanca there have been decades of movies where the voices, the music score, and the shooting changed but the continuous passage of time does not allow us to see those changes easily, only after a while. The differences between Casablanca and present movies were therefore very clear.
Not so with The Silence of the Lambs. Surely it's more recent than Casablanca... it turns only (!) 27 this year. It does show a TWA plane taking off of Washington's National Airport, people constantly using land lines instead of cell phones to make calls, the hair and clothing styles are somewhat dated, and yet, the movie runs smoothly... the voices, the music score, the shooting don't come in the way and allow you to follow the story seamlessly. I guess 1991 was already on the side of modern movie making.
