Apesar do inevitável turístico
pontes

Sunrise, sunrise...
There's something magical about the moment the sky turns orange (actually red but the camera did not capture it) every morning/evening.

Budapest
by George Ezra

My house in Budapest
My hidden treasure chest
Golden grand piano
My beautiful castillo

You
You
I'd leave it all

My acres of a land
I have achieved
It may be hard for you to
Stop and believe

But for you

You
I'd Leave it all

Give me one good reason
Why I should never make a change
And baby if you hold me
Then all of this will go away

My many artifacts
The list goes on
If you just say the words
I'll up and run

Oh, to you
You
I'd leave it all

Give me one good reason
Why I should never make a change
And baby if you hold me
Then all of this will go away

Give me one good reason
Why I should never make a change
Baby if you hold me
Then all of this will go away

My friends and family
They, don't understand
They fear they'd lose so much
If you take my hand

But, for you
You
I'd lose it all

Give me one good reason
Why I should never make a change
And baby if you hold me
Then all of this will go away

Give me one good reason
Why I should never make a change
And baby if you hold me
Then all of this will go away

My house in Budapest
My hidden treasure chest
Golden grand piano
My beautiful castillo

You
You
I'd leave it all

Bookstore
by Garrison Keillor

A bookstore is for people who love books and need
To touch them, open them, browse for a while,
And find some common good – that's why we read.
Readers and writers are two sides of the same gold coin.
You write and I read and in that moment I find
A union more perfect than any club I could join:
The simple intimacy of being one mind.
Here in a book-filled room on a busy street,
Strangers — living and dead — are hoping to meet.

Well it's not enough to be talented. There's a lot of talent out there, but it's owned by lazy, stupid, or essentially boring people. You can't just be talented: You have to be terribly smart and energetic and ruthless. You also have to become necessary to people, by working hard and well and bringing more than your bones and your skin to the project. Don't just show up. Transform the work, yourself, and everybody around you. Be needed. Be interesting. Be something no one else can be--and consistently.

87
por Miguel Araújo e Catarina Salinas

87
Dentes de leite
E uma chiclete
Dentro dum sorvete
Doce deleite, doce deleite sob o sol

É passe do Juary
Quase que podia jurar
Que foi golo de calcanhar
O mundo é por aqui

Com o sol a pique
O sorvete derrete

É passe do Juary

Yesterday in Hawai'i the Kilauea erupted after a few days of abnormal seismic activity, activating immediately thousands of evacuations in the surrounding area. Although it is one of the most active volcanoes in the world, the Kilauea rarely explodes, but since the 1983 eruption rivers of lava flowing into the ocean are not unusual transforming the landscape very rapidly... a rather amazing show of nature even without explosion.

A Fantastic Woman (2017) tells a story of loss, discrimination, and two types of feelings: those that no one has trouble recognizing they exist and thus must be respected, and those other feelings that everyone doubts they exist and as such they are not even considered as such. Currently relevant. Best foreign language movie of the year.

The Divine Order (2017). Switzerland 1971, women fighting for the right to vote and finding a lot of resistance, from society at large, family, and other women too. It's a story of persistence, liberation, and hope. Very funny at times, more for women than for men... for a change.

Numa sala perto de mim #370

The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society (2018) sheds light on the harsh realities of life under German occupation in the Second World War in the small island of Guernsey on the English Channel. The story is told retrospectively from 1946, so we see how people deal with war trauma after the war is over, and how difficult it is to overcome loss or live with past decisions that will forever weigh in one's conscience... not easy to digest even though the 1946 story is far brighter and full of hope.

Caprichos #482

I found him at the door when I arrived work around 8.15am
normally he comes on weekdays and gathers lots of attention from the staff
but today his loud meoooow had only one reverent listener (in me).
His collar has a phone number and says: "I'm Rolf. I'm not lost."
Rolf likes company so he got closer and when I sat on the corridor sofa by his side he jumped on my lap purring. I brought him to the office and put him on a side chair, but as soon as he saw me sitting by the desk he jumped on my lap again, which he used as a spring board to access the desk.
Once there, he stared at the window with just enough intent to make me realize I should open it. He remained on the table a few more minutes (I want to believe not to hurt my feelings) before calmly stepping outside disappearing shortly after. I shared his company for about 30 minutes... I loved it, but I think he was surprised not to have more attention... too sad not to know the days of the week!

Hard to believe R.E.M.'s Imitation of Life (from the album Reveal) is already 17 years old!
_____________

R.E.M.

Charades pop skill
Water hyacinth
Name by a poet
Imitation of life
Like a koi in a frozen pond
Like a goldfish in a bowl
I don't want to hear you cry
That sugar cane that tasted good
That cinnamon, that's Hollywood
Come on, come on
No-one can see you try
You want the greatest thing
The greatest thing since bread came sliced
You've got it all
You've got it sized
Like a Friday fashion show
Teenager cruising in the corner
Trying to look like you don't try
That sugar cane that tasted good
That cinnamon, that's Hollywood
Come on, come on
No-one can see you try
No-one can see you cry
That sugar cane that tasted good
That' freezing rain, that's what you could
Come on, come on
No-one can see you cry
This sugar cane, this lemonade
This hurricane, I'm not afraid
Come on, come on
No-one can see me cry
This lightning storm, this tidal wave
This avalanche, I'm not afraid
Come on, come on
No-one can see me cry
That sugar cane that tasted good
That's who you are, that's what you could
Come on, come on
No-one can see you cry
That sugar cane that tasted good
That's who you are, that's what you could
Come on, come on
No-one can see you cry
