Do the Right Thing (1989) a Spike Lee movie portraying the volatile life of a predominantly black neighborhood in New York City in the late 1980s where anger and friendship across different ethnic groups persist in time increasing the tensions between them. The stand to resist violence does not hold forever and major events can be triggered by the latent animosity. Rather remarkably the movie captures much of the reasons behind the cycles of poverty of these long forsaken places.
