The Smile
by William Blake

There is a Smile of Love
And there is a Smile of Deceit
And there is a Smile of Smiles
In which these two Smiles meet

And there is a Frown of Hate
And there is a Frown of disdain
And there is a Frown of Frowns
Which you strive to forget in vain

For it sticks in the Hearts deep Core
And it sticks in the deep Back bone
And no Smile that ever was smil’d
But only one Smile alone

That betwixt the Cradle & Grave
It only once Smil’d can be
But when it once is Smil’d
There’s an end to all Misery

No free man shall be seized or imprisoned, or stripped of his rights or possessions, or outlawed or exiled, or deprived of his standing in any other way, nor will we proceed with force against him, or send others to do so, except by the lawful judgement of his equals or by the law of the land.

Joana Almeirante (feat. Samuel Úria)

Eu de coração desfeito
Um farrapo em vez de um peito
E uma dor que já nem dói
Eu a chorar pelos ombros
Dos meus amigos todos
E de quem nem conheço bem
Eu a tentar perceber
A tentar esquecer
A tentar, tentar
Vi-te enfim

Eu de coração quebrado
Destruído amarrotado
Já sem querer saber de amor
Eu a chorar pelos cantos
E os cantos foram tantos
Que entretanto já secou
Eu que dizia ter fechado
O coração a cadeado
E deitado a chave ao mar
Vi-te enfim

E foi assim que tu e eu
Voltámos a arriscar
Os dois feridos em combate
Voltámos a lutar
E nesse repto derradeiro
De dois corações partidos
Fizemos um inteiro

Eu a querer saber de cor
Mil canções de desamor
Por falarem só de mim
Eu que dizia estar doente
P'ra não sair e não ver gente
P'ra ninguém me ver assim
Eu a deixar de ir ao cinema
Por ver romance em cada cena
Até nos filmes onde não há
Vi-te enfim

E foi assim que tu e eu
Voltámos a arriscar
Os dois feridos em combate
Voltámos a lutar
E nesse repto derradeiro
De dois corações partidos

E foi assim que tu e eu
Voltámos a arriscar
Os dois feridos em combate
Voltámos a lutar
E nesse repto derradeiro
De dois corações partidos
Fizemos um inteiro

The Cross
by Joe Seramane

You asked for my hands
that you might use them for your purposes.
I gave them for a moment; then I withdrew them, for
the work was hard.

You asked for my mouth
to speak against injustice.
I gave you a whisper that I might not be accused.

You asked for my eyes
to see the pain of poverty
I closed them, for I did not want to see.

You asked me or my life
that you might work through me.
I gave you a small part that I might not get
"too involved".

Lord, forgive me for calculated efforts to serve you
only when it is convenient for me to do so,
only in those places where it is safe to do so, and
only with those who make it easy to do so.

Father, forgive me, renew me,
send me out as a usable instrument,
that I may take seriously the meaning of your Cross.

with the 21st century structure of The Wave gym and Christchurch's spire

Leonard Cohen

They sentenced me to 20 years of boredom
For trying to change the system from within
I'm coming now, I'm coming to reward them
First we take Manhattan, then we take Berlin

I'm guided by a signal in the heavens (Guided, guided)
I'm guided by this birthmark on my skin (I am guided by)
I'm guided by the beauty of our weapons (Ooh, ooh)
First we take Manhattan, then we take Berlin

I'd really like to live beside you, baby
I love your body and your spirit and your clothes
But you see that line there moving through the station?
I told you, I told you, told you I was one of those

Ah, you loved me as a loser, but now you're worried that I just might win
You know the way to stop me, but you don't have the discipline
How many nights I prayed for this, to let my work begin
First we take Manhattan, then we take Berlin

I don't like your fashion business, mister
And I don't like these drugs that keep you thin
I don't like what happened to my sister
First we take Manhattan, then we take Berlin

I'd really like to live beside you, baby
I love your body and your spirit and your clothes
But you see that line there moving through the station?
I told you, I told you, told you I was one of those

And I thank you for those items that you sent me, ha ha ha ha
The monkey and the plywood violin
I practiced every night, now I'm ready
First we take Manhattan, then we take Berlin

I am guided

Ah, remember me, I used to live for music (Baby)
Remember me, I brought your groceries in (Ooh, baby, yeah)
Well, it's Father's Day, and everybody's wounded
First we take Manhattan, then we take Berlin
