Xutos & Pontapés

Eu queria ser astronauta
O meu país não deixou
Depois quis ir jogar a bola
A minha mãe não deixou
Tive vontade de voltar a escola
Mas o doutor não deixou
Fechei os olhos e tentei dormir
Aquela dor não deixou

Ó meu anjo da guarda
Faz-me voltar a sonhar
Faz-me ser astronauta e voar

O meu quarto é o meu mundo
O ecrã é a janela
Não choro em frente à minha mãe
Eu que gosto tanto dela
Mas esta dor não quer desaparecer
Vai-me levar com ela

Ó meu anjo da guarda
Faz-me voltar a sonhar

Voltar a rir, voltar a andar
Voltar Voltar
Voltarei
Voltarei
Voltarei
Voltarei

Belief
by Louis Jenkins

We all have certain things we believe in. Usually they don’t
amount to much. Some people believe that if you put a
spoon in the open bottle champagne will keep its fizz.
Others believe that hot water will freeze faster than cold
or that when you flush a toilet in the southern hemisphere
the water always turns clockwise. In the absence of anything
better these beliefs serve to separate your life from others
lurking in the forest around you, like scent marking. People
have certain words they use, also. Words such as “paradigm,”
“trope,” “facilitator,” “objecthood”….Words that don’t
mean anything. We drop them like breadcrumbs to mark
the way home – where we all intend to return one day.

I understand, especially when one is looking at me from a distance, that I might seem as some kind of fairy-tale hero who banged his head against the wall until the wall fell, and then reigned. It makes me blush slightly, because I know my mistakes. On the other hand, I do not ridicule it because people need these kinds of stories.

Forte de Peniche

David Mourão Ferreira, Alain Oulman

Por teu livre pensamento
Foram-te longe encerrar
Tão longe que o meu lamento
Não te consegue alcançar
E apenas ouves o vento
E apenas ouves o mar
Levaram-te a meio da noite
A treva tudo cobria
Foi de noite numa noite
De todas a mais sombria
Foi de noite, foi de noite
E nunca mais se fez dia.

Ai! Dessa noite o veneno
Persiste em me envenenar

Sempre.

Letter to Noah’s Wife
Maya C. Popa

You are never mentioned on Ararat
or elsewhere, but I know a woman’s hand
in salvation when I see it. Lately,
I’m torn between despair and ignorance.
I’m not a vegetarian, shop plastic,
use an air conditioner. Is this what happens
before it all goes fluvial? Do the selfish
grow self-conscious by the withering
begonias? Lately, I worry every black dress
will have to be worn to a funeral.
New York a bouillon, eroded filigree.
Anything but illness, I beg the plagues,
but shiny crows or nuclear rain.
Not a drop in London May through June.
I bask in the wilt by golden hour light.
Lately, only lately, it is late. Tucking
our families into the safeties of the past.
My children, will they exist by the time
it’s irreversible? Will they live
astonished at the thought of ice
not pulled from the mouth of a machine?
Which parent will be the one to break
the myth; the Arctic wasn’t Sisyphus’s
snowy hill. Noah’s wife, I am wringing
my hands not knowing how to know
and move forward. Was it you
who gathered flowers once the earth
had dried? How did you explain the light
to all the animals?

Foi neste dia #361 (1865)

Emancipation was announced in Galveston Texas, the most remote state of the confederation 155 years ago setting those slaves free. Juneteenth occurred more than two months after the end of the Civil War on April 9th 1865, and more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation on September 22, 1862.

Emancipation

by Priscilla Jane Thompson (1871-1942)

‘Tis a time for much rejoicing;
Let each heart be lured away;
Let each tongue, its thanks be voicing
For Emancipation Day.
Day of victory, day of glory,
For thee, many a field was gory!

Many a time in days now ended,
Hath our fathers’ courage failed,
Patiently their tears they blended;
Ne’er they to their, Maker, railed,
Well we know their groans, He numbered,
When dominions fell, asundered.

As of old the Red Sea parted,
And oppressed passed safely through,
Back from the North, the bold South, started,
And a fissure wide she drew;
Drew a cleft of Liberty,
Through it, marched our people free.

And, in memory, ever grateful,
Of the day they reached the shore,
Meet we now, with hearts e’er faithful,
Joyous that the storm is o’er.
Storm of Torture! May grim Past,
Hurl thee down his torrents fast.

Bring your harpers, bring your sages,
Bid each one the story tell;
Waft it on to future ages,
Bid descendants learn it well.
Kept it bright in minds now tender,
Teach the young their thanks to render.

Come with hearts all firm united,
In the union of a race;
With your loyalty well plighted,
Look your brother in the face,
Stand by him, forsake him never,
God is with us now, forever.

De 1991!
A gente vai continuar
Jorge Palma

E enquanto alguns fazem figura
Outros sucumbem á batota
Chega onde tu quiseres
Mas goza bem a tua rota

Enquanto houver estrada p'ra andar
A gente vai continuar
Enquanto houver estrada p'ra andar
Enquanto houver ventos e mar
A gente não vai parar
Enquanto houver ventos e mar

Reduz as necessidades, se queres passar bem
Que a dependência é uma besta
Que dá cabo do desejo
A liberdade é uma maluca
Que sabe quanto vale um beijo

Enquanto houver estrada p'ra andar
A gente vai continuar
Enquanto houver estrada p'ra andar
Enquanto houver ventos e mar
A gente não vai parar
Enquanto houver ventos e mar

Do ido ano de 1987...
Trovante

devagar

Queria viver tudo numa noite
Sem perder a procurar
O tempo ou espaço
Que é indiferente p'ra poder sonhar

As memórias são
como livros escondidos no pó,
As lembranças são
os sorrisos que queremos rever
devagar

Quem foi que provocou vontades
e atiçou as tempestades
e amarrou o barco ao cais?
Quem foi que matou o desejo
e arrancou um lábio ao beijo
e amainou os vendavais?

As memórias são
como livros escondidos no pó,
As lembranças são
os sorrisos que queremos rever
devagar.

The Tooth Fairy
by Dorianne Laux

They brushed a quarter with glue
and glitter, slipped in on bare
feet, and without waking me
painted rows of delicate gold
footprints on my sheets with a love
so quiet, I still can’t hear it.

My mother must have been
a beauty then, sitting
at the kitchen table with him,
a warm breeze lifting her
embroidered curtains, waiting
for me to fall asleep.

It’s harder to believe
the years that followed, the palms
curled into fists, a floor
of broken dishes, her chain-smoking
through long silences, him
punching holes in his walls.

I can still remember her print
dresses, his checkered taxi, the day
I found her in the closet
with a paring knife, the night
he kicked my sister in the ribs.

He lives alone in Oregon now, dying
of a rare bone disease.
His face stippled gray, his ankles
clotted beneath wool socks.

She’s a nurse on the graveyard shift,
Comes home mornings and calls me.
Drinks her dark beer and goes to bed.

And I still wonder how they did it, slipped
that quarter under my pillow, made those
perfect footprints…

Whenever I visit her, I ask again.
“I don’t know,” she says, rocking, closing
her eyes. “We were as surprised as you.”

Seguir caminho é a melhor opção!

Danadinhos...
