The Searchers (1956), set in 1868-1873, the movie tells the story of an intrepid pair that searches for a missing girl in the difficult scenario of Americans settling in the frontier, which was Indian territory. John Wayne's presence fills the screen and nearly makes every other character disappear into insignificance.
Worth of note is that the action happens in former confederate territory against the backdrop of the civil war, which ended just three years prior. Furthermore, in 1956 not a full century had passed over such events.
